Punch-Drunk Love (2002)

One of my favorites! Just the best. I love the blue lights. Such creative shots. I love that cut from the intro to the colorful title-less title sequence when he just says "I don't know" as the music crescendos. Relative to the movie as a whole it does slow down in the last half hour. It's hard to recall my first impression now but I am pretty sure the first time I saw it I was pretty disappointed that the pudding + harmonium didn't end up being more central to the story in the latter half. They basically become irrelevant.

9.5/10

Computer Chess (2013)

Almost perfect. One of my favorites. Gotta be Top 5.

9.5/10

Nacho Libre (2006)

Oof. Never really thought this movie would be that good. But yeah. Napoleon Dynamite must have been a fluke. I rly tried to like it. Big Wes Anderson rip off too with the cinematography and music.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

7/10

MoviePass movie #7*
[saw at Williamsburg Cinemas]

Maybe I just don't love STAR WARS movies! I liked it. I liked seeing how the bombers function from the inside. I liked seeing Luke and Princess Leia get another movie. Had a couple of very cool sequences.

*Man I'm not using my MoviePass that much anymore O_o

Justice League (2017)

4/10

MoviePass movie #6
[saw at Williamsburg Cinemas]

Pretty much what I expected. So bland. Too serious. Some of the action stuff was definitely well done but I just didn't care. Laughable and not in a good way. Bad cast!

Lady Bird (2017)

I can't complain, was good. But also I don't care that much. Would have loved it when I was like 17-20.

Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

I really like it!

I was uncomfortable sometimes. And laughing sometimes. it worked!

Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

8/10

MoviePass movie #2
[saw at Williamsburg Cinema]

On Facebook I wrote:

Late to the party. Mostly liked. Too long. Really appreciate that a huge budget movie can be so artfully done. I hate modern sci fi effects. Nothing bores me more than a CGI environment and I expected this to absolutely fail where Blade Runner 1 succeeded. I just wanted to look and listen to the universe. Wanted even more street scenes! I can't believe no one mentioned how cool that scene was with holographic Elvis. Or the scene on the concrete beach beyond the wall. I ate it up. Any other fist fight in a movie would be drowned out by some EPIC TRACK. In The Elvis room, you could basically just hear the clicking of the lights coming on and off; that's great sound design! By about 3/4ths in I did want it to be over. But it looked and sounded so cool.

The Florida Project (2017)

9.5/10

MoviePass movie #1
[saw at Nighthawk]

I loved this movie from beginning to end, until the end.

This is an absolute must watch. One of those rare almost-perfect movies. I loved it so much.

But the ending was so bad.

I don't even want to elaborate right now.

It's all I can think about.

I went from loving every minute. And crying.

To seeing that sped up shot.

And thinking, wait... what are you doing.

That ending shot of the Disney castle felt like they just wanted to show HEY LOOK WE SHOT IN DISNEY WORLD ISNT THAT COOL. So dissapointing.

Perfect otherwise.
